The salesman owned the fleetest young stallion in the state, but
there was a problem. Every time he raced, the colt would slow down in
order to wink at the mares. Deciding that there was only one way to
protect his investment in the animal, the salesman had his horse gelded.
The surgery was performed, and a few weeks later the horse was back in the gate. Sure enough, his eye didn't wander. His head bent low, eyes intense, the animal had only the track in mind.
The gun for the race started and the young stallion bolted from the gate, but after a few paces the horse stopped, turned and ran back.
The salesman bolted from the stands. "What's wrong? What's wrong now?" he shouted as he neared his prized stallion.
"What's wrong?" the horse asked testily. "How would you feel if you stepped from the gate and some wise guy yelled in to the loudspeaker, 'They're off!!!' "
Moral of the story. True sales professionals know that in order to be successful in sales they have to always stay focused on what lies directly in front of them. There will always be distractions, but you just have to ignore them and drive forward. Remember, getting distracted, slowing down or stopping altogether can be very, very painful.
"Don't dwell on what went wrong. Instead focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer." - Denis Waitley
