On a visit to a movie theater, a salesman was struggling to hear
the dialogue above the chatter of two young women sitting directly in front of
him. Unable to bear it any longer, he tapped one of the women on the
shoulder.
"Excuse me," he said, I can't hear."
"I should hope not," replied one of the young women sharply. "This is a private conversation."
Moral of the story. True sales professionals know that your ability to hear doesn't really have an impact on your sales success. It's your ability to listen that counts. If you are not aware of any difference between "hear" and "listen" you may want to "tune up" your listening skills a bit. Can you hear me?
"Know how to listen, and you will profit even from those who talk badly." - Plutarch
