Sales Joke of the Day (November 5) Staying Connected.

The salesman scheduled to be on an all week business trip, had finished up a day early, so he sent his wife an email telling her that he would be home later that evening, a whole day ahead of schedule.

Upon his arrival at home, the salesman was shocked to find his wife in bed with another man.  He immediately stormed out of his house and went straight to his lawyer's home to see about getting a divorce.

"I know you're upset," his lawyer told the salesman as he fixed him a drink.  "But don't you think you're being a little hasty?  Why don't you call and see if there is some kind of explanation?"

Not wanting to flush fifteen years of marriage down the drain, the salesman reluctantly called his wife.  "Well," he said.  "Why did I find you in the arms of another man?"

His wife replied forthrightly, "Because I don't always check my email.   If you wanted to make sure I received your message, you should have followed up with a phone call!"

Moral of the story.    True sales professionals know that in order to succeed in sales; you have to make sure that your communications get through.    If your message is important flag it as such, and tag it to notify you when the message has been opened.   If no such confirmation has been made available in a reasonable amount of time, don't leave things to chance.  Follow up in person with a phone call to verify that your message has been fully communicated.  Confirmation will ensure that neither you nor your prospect, will ever be caught with their pants down, in the future.
